The fifth round of the Kenya National Rally Championship was called off on Monday over safety issues.
The Nanyuki Rally was scheduled for 14-15 July in Nanyuki.
“This is to inform all competitors and concerned parties that in the interest of safety and unavoidable circumstances NRG have called a force majeure and the event will not take place as scheduled,” reads the bulletin that was sent out on Monday.
Kawowo Sports spoke to the event Clerk of Course Kunal Patel on the cancellation.
“The area developed sudden insecurity arising from pastoralists. The Samburu people invaded the Lolldaiga ranch where the event was scheduled to take place.
“We could not risk organising the event in that kind of condition for the safety of the crews and everyone else,” said Patel.
“We shall try and look for the new dates for the event if the calendar allows,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ian Duncan currently leads the KNRC leaderboard with 72 points; four points ahead of Manvir Baryan while Tapio Laukannen is third with 63 points.
