Geoffrey Sserunkuma didn’t only grab headlines at home but also on the continent, the early goals and ‘careless’ defence.

Ismael Kiyonga takes a look at the talking points from KCCA’s 2017 continental campaign that ended at the group stage.

Brilliant home record

Of the six home games, only reigning African champions Mamelodi Sundowns didn’t fall at the astro turf Lugogo.

The Kasasiro enjoyed an awesome time at home winning 5 of the 6 home matches, scoring 9 goals and drawing just once.

Abysmal away record

Despite being brilliant at home, they have been poor on the road losing six in as many away games.

They have managed to score on foreign soil just three times and conceded a record 12 goals. Only once have they shipped in just one goal.

The porous defence

If there is one area that left the KCCA technical staff with lots of questions, it’s the way they defend.

In 12 games played, the Kasasiro has shipped in 18 goals, an average of 1.5 goals per game and keeping just two clean sheets.

Questionable tactics on the road

Mike Mutebi has never hidden his admiration for free flowing football and has shown admiration to create an Identity of football at Lugogo.

He doesn’t care whether home or away but his tactics on the road have been questionable.

He seems unbothered on when the team has to apply a cautious approach for a needed result or go all out and no doubt, this has cost the team.

Maybe it’s time Mutebi and his staff swallowed a bitter pill and once in a while, mortgage identity for result when the team returns to the continent next year.

Nsibambi – Sserunkuma combo

After conquering the domestic scene, the striking combination of Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Derrick Nsibambi went on to prove a point on the continent.

Between them, they scored 10 goals with Sserunkuma scoring 6 and Nsibambi 4.

This accounts for 77% of all goals the Kasasiro scored in both the Total CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Conceding early goals

Over 97% of all goals KCCA conceded away from home have come inside the first half hour.

Mutebi’s charges have arguably the worst record in this year’s continental football inside the opening half and it’s another area the club must improve next year.
