The Saints Football Club will have a new identity when the 2017-18 Uganda Premier League season kicks off in September.

The club shall now be known as Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Football Club after their request to change the name was approved by the FUFA Executive Committee that convened late last week.

Following some of the resolutions by the 14th FUFA Executive Committee meeting, the grounds for the request were verified and passed in the affirmative.

FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson confirmed the development;

…after verification of grounds for the request and related regulations, the FUFA Executive committee has granted your club permission to change the name to UPDF FC

You are therefore requested to link up with the FUFA Secretariat to submit documents that will enable your club to register for competitions and update the FUFA Membership under the new name

UPDF bought off The Saints FC from top managers at Red Pepper at the start of 2016-17 season after the relegation of Simba which previously was run by the army.

Simba was thus disposed off to another businessman and has been playing in the Elgon Group of the FUFA Big League.
