At the inaugural KCB Sports Club Junior Open Chess Championships set for 15 July, Uganda will be represented by a pair of youngsters.

The rated event that is scheduled to take place at the club’s home in Ruaraka, Nairobi has attracted Chess Life Academy’s Simon Peter Lubega and John Vianney Kamoga.

Lubega, a 10-year-old and a two-time winner of the Premium Junior Chess tournament is expected to battle fellow youngsters under the U10 category, while Kamoga aged 11 will test his wit against the Kenyans in the U12 section.

The two are pupils from Bishop Ddungu Boarding Primary School, Kyamaganda and locals in Nairobi already.

At the championships, Lubega who is ready to extend his superiority abroad and compatriot will be battling for a maiden rating and trophy prizes. Only the top three shall make the podium at the one day event.

The tournament format shall be Rapid, six rounds, Swiss System with a time control of 25 minutes per player per game.
