Uganda’s Silverbacks will have to negotiate their way against continental heavyweights Angola, Morocco as well as the Central Africa Republic in the group stage of 2017 FIBA AfroBasket.

The draw for the event set for September 8-16 in Dakar (Senegal) and Tunis (Tunisia) was conducted on Sunday at The Westin Turtle Bay Resort and Spa in Balaclava, Mauritius.

Dakar will host Group B (which has Uganda) and D in the group phase from September 8-10 while teams drawn in Group A and C will compete in Tunis.

The top two teams from each group will advance to Tunis, which will also host the quarter finals through to the finals from September 14-16.

The top two teams will advance to the quarter finals, while the bottom two will crash out of the tournament.

Uganda played at their first ever AfroBasket in 2015 and finished 15th.


Group A: Nigeria, DR Congo, Mali and Ivory Coast

Group B: Angola, Central African Republic, Morocco and Uganda

Group C: Tunisia, Guinea, Rwanda and Cameroon

Group D: Senegal, Mozambique, Egypt and South Africa
