Even before the season kicked off, Namibia were favourites to shove past the other five teams and win the Africa Gold Cup.

Three games into the campaign, the defending champions have lived up to the expectations, winning all their opening games to lead the six-team log with a maximum 15 points.

Uganda, on 11 points now, lie third on the log and a win over their visitors will see the Cranes take to the summit of the table, depending on the results from the Kenya.

“We expected to play Namibia so we are prepared for them,” Rugby Cranes head coach John Duncan revealed ahead of the game.

The last encounter between the two sides ended in a 40-31 win for Namibia at Kyadondo last year.

Marvin Odongo, who put in a man of the match shift in the game, is now out of the team with work and school commitments.

The responsibility, in Odongo’s absence, lies on the shoulders of fullback Philip Wokorach, who dazzled his way over the white wash thrice against Tunisia last weekend.

Wokorach scored 31 points last weekend, just hours after being named the USPA rugby players of the year.

Scott Oluoch, who missed the last two games against Senegal and Tunisia, will return to the team and partner Brian Asaba in the back-row.

Aaron Ofoyrwoth will maintain his number nine jersey with Ivan Kirabo, who started the season as the number one scrumhalf, only making the bench.

Solomon Okia, who scored after coming on last weekend, is given a starting place to replace the injured James Odong at the blind wing.

Namibia arrived for the clash Thursday afternoon and are favourites against the Cranes in the lunchtime fixture.

Namibia won the Africa Cup last year and represented the continent at the Rugby World Cup.
