After Uganda Cranes’ 5-1 win over South Sudan in the CHAN 2018 Qualifiers, Micho made some cryptic statements that have sent Ugandan sports media and fans into a meltdown. Several reports on Saturday evening claimed that he had resigned his post as Uganda Cranes’ head coach.

Has Micho resigned?

NO. (Not yet).

What Exactly did he say?

This is the end of the journey from 1st July 2017 over the two legs. We picked up the pieces well after a goalless draw in Sudan. I will announce something in the next 48 hours. Thank you so much Uganda.

OK. Let’s unpack that. He will announce ‘something’ in 48 hours. We don’t know what that is.

Is he going to resign?

That we don’t know. After the 48 hours, he could actually resign. He could also tell the country how FUFA hasn’t paid him or he could launch a master plan for CHAN 2018. Only he knows. Previous cases demonstrate that we cannot be sure until he does. Is he alerting suitors that is available?

Does FUFA Owe Micho and has the contract been breached?

Micho has told Kawowo Sports’ Ismael Kiyonga that he hasn’t been paid in four months. FUFA is tight-lipped on this particular issue. Privately, Micho has claimed that FUFA are in breach of the terms of his contract.

Just last week, FUFA presented books of accounts claiming that they paid the coach over 230M. The question is if they could pay that, how did FUFA fail to pay the said four months? For those who are new to FUFA-Micho salary issues, here is a refresher.

How much is his salary and who pays it?

We understand that the national team coach earns about 10,000 US dollars and is paid directly by FUFA. Citing non disclosure clauses, both parties have never come out, on the record, to state details in the coach’s contract.

Why does he keep having salary issues?

Well, Micho doesn’t get paid what a local coach earns.

Also, FUFA is one of the ‘poorer’ federations in Africa. In other countries, governments reportedly pick the tab for the coach’s remuneration.

If he resigns, where could he be headed?

On Thursday, Micho told Kawowo Sports‘ David Isabirye that he has more than 20 offers.

Kawowo Sports‘ Ismael Kiyonga said: “Reports link Micho to Egypt with one of the clubs. Orlando Pirates is yet another link. For now all these are merely links.”

What does FUFA say about the reported resignation?

On Saturday evening, the FUFA president, Moses Magogo for the record, stated:

I am still on a flight but I talked to coach and I will meet him on Monday when I get back to office. It is Our routine meeting after international matches. I am sure if he has any matter to table before FUFA that will be the moment. Otherwise as FUFA we don’t have any communication regarding his ‘resignation’ and can not assume it. We understand the Coach as a professional who should address any issues with employers first then a formal communication will be made.
