Despite dominating the opening minutes of the game, Weatherhead were unable to find the goal, and were hit on a counter attack for Wananchi’s first goal.
Mbabazi opened the scoring in the 24th minute after driving the ball from around the center, and with five minutes to half time, her namesake Doreen Asiimwe doubled the lead to ensure the defending champions go into recess with the lead.
Weatherhead were unfortunate to lose midfielder Siddy Alum to injury. The two goals came after Alum was stretched off for treatment.
And hardly a minute after restart, Wananchi added the third and it came from their shirt eleven Mbabazi.
Mbabazi, Wananachi’s top scorer last season then completed her hat-trick in the 41st minute to make sure the two-time champions widen the gap at the top of the table.
The striker was scoring her ninth goal of the campaign which makes her the current top scorer in the league.
Wananchi now lead the table with 12 points collected from four games.
Weatherhead were registering their first defeat of the campaign. The side remains second in the table standings, and although they managed to edge Deliverance 2-0 the following day, the three points were not enough to dislodge Wananchi from the top.
Weatherhead trail Wananchi by three points.
