Zambia’s Leroy Gomes is braced for a challenging weekend ahead as the 2017 Africa Rally Championship returns with the fifth round in Tanzania.

Leroy Gomes is currently second on the ARC standings; two points behind leader Manvir Baryan.

Unlike in the previous ARC events, Gomes is more anxious with the Tanzania Rally.

“The Oryx Rally really seems to be quite a challenging event. A number of top drivers have failed to complete this event.

“The current ARC leader is a brilliant driver and so is Chatthe who will also be taking part. We cannot truly match their pace at the moment. The battle at the top will be so big also with Muna Jr plus the local drivers in the mix,” says Gomes.

Gomes is however hopeful regardless of the anticipated competition.

“Our approach will be the same as before, to keep a clean race. We will try to go faster in this event with respect to our chances on the ARC.

“We shall aim to finish and hopefully we will be among the top five positions,” he added.

Gomes and co-driver Urshlla Gomes have competed in all previous ARC events this year. They will drive a Mitsubishi EvoX.
