It is all systems go for the biggest chess event in the country this month.
The venue for the Ultimate Death Match has been revealed and it is not what anyone imagined.
IM Arthur Ssegwanyi, IM Elijah Emojong, FM Patrick Kawuma, untitled Walter Okas [2308], FM Harold Wanyama and FM Haruna Nsubuga – the top six players in the East African region – shall battle for the ultimate bragging rights at Portbell, Luzira but not in any of those fancy buildings.
The brain masters have decided to take their egghead fight off land to an enclosed place where there will be no escape in case of a thorough beating. MV Kaawa has been chosen as a perfect place for this historic bout.
Everything about this match is nonpareil. Aside from the novelty of the venue, it will be the first event to be publicized live in Uganda and it shall also be broadcast on YouTube.
If it goes as planned, Uganda will become the third country in Africa to use the Digital Game Technology [DGT] e-Boards. Only South Africa and Kenya have done it before.
The event starts on 12th August.
