Weatherhead Gazelles go into their first game of the second round looking to avenge their first round defeat to Wananchi when the two sides meet on Saturday at the National Hockey Stadium, Lugogo.

The record league winners were on a wrong side of a 4-0 outcome last month as Wananchi ended the round on a perfect note. It is a crucial day for the Gazelles who are hoping to secure their fourth victory of the campaign and hand Wananchi their first defeat this term.

Weatherhead are in dire need of victory tomorrow to salvage some pride. The side has lately proved a no match for the defending champions, and for the two times they’ve met this year, they have been the second best team.

They lost 1-0 in the finals of the Weatherhead Open prior the league start, and followed that painful defeat with a 4-0 loss in the league.

They will look to patch things up tomorrow, and will hope midfielder Siddy Alum continues with her scoring. Alum netted twice in their last league engagement as they beat Deliverance 2-0 to wrap up the first round on a good note.

This fixture always seems tight for Wananchi but they have time and again come tops with much ease. Wananchi’s fourth win of the season came against Weatherhead, and it helped them consolidate their position at the top of the table.

The side opened their second round with a 3-1 win over Deliverance Church Uganda last Sunday. In that game, Wananchi came from behind to bag all the three points, with the league’s top scorer Doreen Mbabazi notching the equalizer.

It was victory that widen the gap between them and their Saturday opponents. Wananchi remain the only side in the ladies’ category yet to drop points. They lead the table standings with 15 points, 6 adrift of second placed Weatherhead.
