Uganda Cranes midfield gem Tony Mawejje has agreed a two-year deal with Albania giants FK Tirana.
The box to box midfielder, arguably the best of his generation in the country is yet to put pen paper pending a few issues to be sorted but him and his representatives confirmed to have held talks with club CEO, Hector Como.
Como, who is in Nairobi also confirmed talks with the highly rated midfielder who was amongst the best performers for the Uganda Cranes at the Afcon finals in Gabon early this year.
“We had talks with the player and his representative and explained to him why signing for us is a good move,” said Como who is currently Nairobi.
“There are a few issues to sort out but as soon as we are done, he will fly to Albania to link up with the rest of the team as we prepare for the next season,” he added.
Mawejje who has played in Norway, South Africa and Iceland among others has been a subject of interest from clubs in various countries Sweden, Malta, Turkey and Norway among others explained why he thinks a move to the 25 time Albania champions is best for his career.

“There have been many offers coming my way,” said Mawejje. “But after talking to Hector, I opted to join FK Tirana so that I can be part of the big project,” he added.
It’s not about the money but the future of the club looks bright. It’s a big club with a lot of history and have always aimed at better performance in Europe as well.
The Albania Cup winners last season have however had their hopes of playing in the Europa Group Stages quashed after losing to Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The club, home to Mawejje’s compatriot Yunus Sentamu is coached by former Gor Mahia coach, Ze Maria, a former Brazilian international with over 46 caps.
Mawejje isn’t only highly rated in Uganda but also regarded as one of the finest central midfielders alongside Tottenham Hotspur Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama in the CECAFA region.
