Weatherhead [M] powered to a 7-3 win over Simba to put themselves to within touching distance of table leaders Kampala Hockey Club Stallions.
Weatherhead raced into a four-goal lead, with striker Peter Elolu opening the scoring in the eleventh minute, before Arnold Kasumba doubling the advantage a minute later.
Player-coach Vincent Kasasa then found his fifth goal of the campaign and his fourth successive goal with Weatherhead’s third in the 17th minute, and before Simba could know what had hit them, team captain Moses Tushabe registered his name on the score sheet.
By the time Kasasa’s men were leading 4-0, only 18 minutes had been played.
Andrew Lubega, scorer of a brace against Rockets in their opening match pulled one back, before going on to find the second for himself and his club ending the first half 4-2.
Weatherhead opened the second half superbly and they were not to be denied. Kasasa hit the fifth with the clock reading 47 minutes confirming a mountain to climb for Simba who were hoping to find their second win of the season.
Ali Mohammed, Simba’s player-coach scored his side’s third shortly after, before Solomon Mutalya notching Weatherhead’s sixth, and Tushabe closed the evening with his second of the day, Weatherhead’s seventh to end it 7-3.
The win takes Weatherhead who are looking for their first league trophy since 2011 to within two points of Kampala Stallions who were out of action this game week.
Simba remain second last with three points collected five games.
