Thomas Opio scored four goals as Wananchi thumped Simba 11-0 on Sunday in the National Hockey League to reduce the point gap at the top to six points.

Opio opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Joshua Gumisiriza and team captain Innocent Raskara adding the second and third in the 11th and 19th minutes respectively.

The trio then each registered a brace, with Gumisiriza getting Wananchi’s fourth while Opio scored the fifth and Raskara found the sixth to end the game as a contest in the first half.

The three were not done yet though. At the restart of the game, Opio was on target for his third, before Raskara and Gumisiriza following suit as they too completed their hat-tricks.

And with three minutes left of play, Opio, who top scored last season in the league scored his fourth of the day- Wananchi’s 11th to fantastically wrap up the day.

With the top two sides in the league Kampala Hockey Club Stallions and Weatherhead sharing the spoils in form of 3-3 draw, Wananchi cut the gap at the top to six points. The defending champions remain third in the league, but now trail leaders KHC who are top with 16 points by six.

Simba who have only one win to their name this season are still second last with three points. The side got those three points against bottom side Rockets when they hit them 5-0 on the opening weekend of the season.
