The success of Olila High Scool ladies team in the Mehta T20 league over the weekend must have rubbed off on the boys as well who were able to qualify for the Boys Schools Cricket Week for the second time.

The boys were able to see off competition from Teso College, Soroti Municipal and Light SS in the Soroti region qualifiers to finish as the top team.

Only the winners were granted a place in the finals to be held in Kampala during the school holiday where Soroti will join other regional winners.

In a new move by Uganda Cricket Association to promote the game in the greater Eastern Region, the schools in the Soroti region had their own qualifying campaign a change from the previous years when they had to qualify from the Jinja region.

Olila High joins Busoga College Mwiri, who won the Eastern Region qualifiers, Nyakasura from the South West and Mukono Parents who won the Central Region qualifiers.

The other schools to have qualified for the finals include Ndejje SS, Kololo SS, Agakhan (Central Region), Jinja SS, St James (Eastern Region) and Kilembe SS from the South West.

The annual school tournament is a highlight for upcoming cricketers and acts as an identification tournament for Uganda Cricket for future stars.

Mukono Parents are the defending champions of the annual boys tournament.

This years event is scheduled to run from August 27.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
