Football, like many sporting disciplines remains a game of hope, anticipation and continued sheer hard work.
When Uganda Cranes hosted Rwanda in the first leg of the CHAN 2018 qualifiers, Simon Sserunkuma was among the players who failed to make the 18 man squad on the day.
Like fate would dictate, the former Express fast paced winger did not lose hope, he returned to the famous drawing board.
As the team flies out to Kigali on Thursday evening, Sserunkuma is among the three new faces who make the traveling team. He is joined by defender Timothy Dennis Awany and exciting left footed winger Martin Kizza.
The rest of the 15 players on the traveling team made the first leg team that won convincingly 3-0 on the red letter day at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende.
Two goal hero, Muzamiru Mutyaba remains optimistic he will play for the team than seek personal glorification.
“Football is a team sport. Actually, we all listen to the instructions from the coaches and apply exactly that when we go to the filed of play. The rest is left to the mighty power of Allah,” the soft spoken Mutyaba said after the team’s test match with KCCA at Lugogo on Wednesday.

There are two goalkeepers in Ismael Watenga and Benjamin Ochan. The team has 6 defenders – Nico Wakiro Wadada, Deus Bukenya, Isaac Muleme, Bernard Muwanga, Timothy Awanyand Paul Musamali
The midfielders are Martin Kizza, Muzamir Mutyaba, Shafic Kagimu, Tom Masiko, Simon Sserukuma, Moses Waiswa
The players will the task for the forward roles are Erisa Ssekisambu, Derrick Nsibambi, Paul Mucureezi and Milton Karisa.
The team advance party led by Joseph Kasana is already in Kigali and confirms that the team will be booked at Galaxy Hotel.
Uganda Cranes lead 3-0 from the first leg. The opening two goals came from Mutyaba and the icing on the cake was delivered by Derrrick Nsibambi with Mutyaba, Nico Wadada, Milton Karisa all having a hand in the well worked out strike.
The winner on aggregate will qualify for the final tournament in Kenya, come the year 2018.
