Wananchi can extend the lead at the top of the table in the National Hockey League with victory over Kampala Hockey Club Swans on Saturday.

The defending champions have 18 points, eight ahead of Deliverance Church Uganda seated second in the league, and a potential win over the Swans tomorrow would mean Deliverance would trail them by 11 points.

It is unlikely that the Swans will pose any kind of threat to the current league leaders given their previous meets that have ended horrendously for the former hence a win is expected for Wananchi.

KHC have been awful since the season kicked off, with their Saturday opponents subjecting them to a 11-0 thumping on the opening weekend of the season.

They managed to beat league debutants Rhinos on the final day of the first round, and opened their second round with victory against the same opponent, but that will hardly be considered when weighing their rare chances of edging Wananchi.

The defending champions will need to have a rare bad day in office for KHC to have an opportunity to handle them.

Wananchi came from behind last weekend to edge their bitter rivals Weatherhead Gazelles 3-2. Meanwhile, KHC were involved in a goalless draw with Deliverance.

The Swans occupy the third position in the league with seven points.
