CHAN 2018 Qualifiers

  • Sudan 1-0 Ethiopia (Sudan qualified 1-0 on aggregate)
  • Rwanda 2-0 Uganda (Uganda qualified 3-2 on aggregate)

The CECAFA region will be represented by three countries Kenya, Uganda and Sudan at the 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.

The Sudan Falcons of Jediane qualified for the final tournament after winning the tightly contested encounter against Ethiopia 1-0 on aggregate.

Elsamani El Sawi scored the lone goal in Khartoum after the first leg played in Hawassa had ended goal-less.

Sudan will take part in the CHAN finals for the second time as they participated in the 2011 tournament as hosts.

Meanwhile Uganda will join Sudan and hosts Kenya at the tournament after progressing at the expense of Rwanda.

Although the Rwanda Amavubi Stars triumphed 2-0 in the return leg, Uganda Cranes made the grade 3-2 on aggregate, having won 3-0 in the first leg.

During the second leg, Rwanda scored through APR midfielder Yannick Mukunzi and Rayon Sports’ defender Thierry Manzi inside the opening 15 minutes to give hope to the Rwandese.

However, a solid defence from the visitors for the rest of the match saw Cranes through to a 4th consecutive final tournament.
