The Rwanda national basketball team (men) was the beneficiary when FIBA Africa handed them a wild card to compete at this year’s African Basketball Championship.

Having lost to Uganda in the semi final of the Zone V Nations’ championship held in Egypt, Moise Mutokambali’s charges had missed out on the event until after landing the wild card.

However, how they got there will not matter when the African showpiece gets underway in Senegal and Tunisia early next month.

The team is now planning to hold a week long camp in Tunisia before the finals get underway on September 6.

The Championship (Afrobasket) is scheduled to take place from September 6-16 in Senegal and Tunisia.

Rwanda will be making her fifth appearance at the continent’s biggest basketball competition.

Having been drawn in Group C alongside debutants Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and hosts Tunisia, Rwanda will play their group games in Tunisia. Senegal will host Group B and Group D games.

The team is expected to leave for Tunisia on August 27.
