Makerere University Business School [MUBS] has been confirmed as the venue for this year’s National Juniors Chess Championships by the Uganda Chess Federation [UCF].

The event is scheduled for September 8-10, and over a 1000 juniors; according to the UCF Publicity David Muwanguzi are expected to take part.

Fresh from making the country proud, the duo of Maria Nakanyike and Peace Naomi Nabuyondo are expected to lead the girls’ category. The pair won medals at the African Schools Individual Chess Championships held in Zimbabwe, with Nakanyike scooping a silver medal under the category of U-11, while Nabuyondo picked up bronze in her U-9 category.

Other youngsters including Mark Nyola Wasswa, Edwin Pido, Suubi Kiwanuka Lwanga, Kitty Joyce Mary Ndagizimana, Patrick Elijah Muwanguzi, Victor Kanyike, Paul Kevin Wasswa Mwanje and Hamssadhwane Sivakumar who represented Uganda in Zimbabwe are also expected to put up a show.

According to Muwanguzi, the federation has offered free lunch to all participants. UCF will also use the 200 chess boards and clocks secured from the African Chess Confederation [ACC] by the UCF president Emmanuel Mwaka at this event.
