Cape Verde earned their first victory in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign following a 2-1 home win against 10-man South African in Praia on Friday evening.

Turkish based Anthony Tokelo Rantie, who plays for Gençlerbirliği Football Club gave the visitors the lead on the opening quarter hour mark but Nuno Miguel Monteiro Rocha cancelled the advantage in the 33rd minute.

The FC Tosno midfielder  in the Russian league grabbed a brace with a penalty kick 5 minutes later as the first half ended 2-1

South Africa was reduced to 10 men when Kaizer Chiefs lanky defender  Eric “Tower” Mathoho was sent off in the 68th minute for unsporting play.

Cape Verde gets to 3 points, same as Senegal.

The loss was the first for South Africa in the campaign.

Senegal hosts Burkina Faso on Saturday in the other group match at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor in Dakar City.
