Less than a week to opening of the 2017/18 season, Matia Lule has thrown the towel at former champions Express FC.

The former Express FC defender has been at the helm of the club for close to ten months after replacing Wasswa Bbosa midway last season.

Lule who is also linked with a move to DR Congo side Bukavu said it’s high time he stepped down at the club citing failure by the club chairperson to honour his contract.

“I can’t continue working under such conditions,” he told Kawowo Sports. “Actually, I have laid down tools until the club clears,” he added.

The ex-KCCA and Entebbe FC coach further revealed his assistants had already stepped down.

My assistants Pius Ngabo, Joseph Kiwanuka, Edward Kalungi and Sam Kawalya had already resigned and at one time thought I was getting paid at their expense.

Structural Problem

Lule hinted that the biggest problem at Wankulukuku is the lack of structure.

What annoys most is that club has no structures. It’s all about Nakiwala and it seems everyone deserted her for the way she does her thing.

I have a CV to protect and responsibility as well.

Bukavu links

DR Congo side Bukavu have reportedly offered a deal to the former defender.

However, despite admitting talks with the side, he says no agreement has been reached.

I am available now since I have no contract with anyone. I have spoken to a number of clubs including Bukavu who have shown interest but nothing conclusive at the moment.

Crisis at Wankulukuku?

Lule’s resignation comes barely a day after CEO Ivan Kintu and Gonzaga, the chairman fans club also reportedly left the club.

The Red Eagles begin their campaign with a home tie against Kirinya Jinja SS on Wednesday September 13 before playing away to Mbarara City three days later.
