Ahead of the third round of the National Hockey League that commences on Saturday 9th September, Weatherhead have snatched the trio of Ashiraf Tumwesigye, Timothy Ntumba and Brian Okodi from fierce rivals Kampala Hockey Club Stallions.
The side has boosted their attacking options while weakening the Stallions who undeniably have been dependent on Tumwesigye and Ntumba for goals.
“We are glad to have added them to our team,” Vincent Kasasa, Weatherhead player-coach said. “They are without a doubt going to boost the strength of the team. I believe with them, we are going to improve on our scoring.” He added.
The duo of Tumwesigye and Ntumba are renewing their relationship with Weatherhead.
After their failed attempts to win the league with the side, they left the club, with Ntumba exiting the side in 2014, while Tumwesigye left the 2011 league champions at the end of last season but the two now return to the club with the hope of clinching the title.
While the Stallions lead the table standings in the league, there’s a feeling among majority of hockey followers that the side will stumble along the way.
It is understood that the trio believe tasting league glory is more realistic at Weatherhead.
A fan who preferred anonymity said: “They saw the light and decided to move. KHC is becoming a dead end, and for me Weatherhead is the right club for them. They have higher chances of winning the league with Weatherhead than at KHC. But you have to feel sorry for KHC, Weatherhead have signed their entire team.”
Weatherhead currently sit second in the league with 17 points, two adrift of the summit.
