The Uganda Lady Cricket Cranes got of the mark in the T20 World Cup qualifiers in Windhoek after defeating Namibia by 20 runs.

The team got a little disorganized on departure after their coach Francis Otieno wasn’t allowed to travel by immigration but Grace Mutyagaba was able to join the girls last evening to help the ladies get off the mark.

Tournament hosts Namibia won the toss and put in Uganda to bat and it looked a good decision early on as Uganda was quickly 24/4 but a big middle order partnership from Getrude Chandiru (40) and Franklin Najjumba (22) helped Uganda finish on 97/7.

Chandiru capped off her good day by finishing with match figures of 3/16 ably supported by the mean Joyce Mary Apio who went for only 5 runs in her 3 overs picking up one wicket as well.

Namibia could only manage 77/7 in their 20 Overs running out resources.

Uganda takes on Tanzania tomorrow as they continue to via for the single African spot in the World Cup.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
