KHC's vice captain Dulf Musoke

Kampala Hockey Club Stallions edged title rivals Weatherhead [M] in a dramatic fashion as the side kept hopes of winning a maiden National Hockey League title alive.

For a side that lost three of their best players to Weatherhead last week, the Stallions needed to wait till the last minute of the game to inflict damage on Vincent Kasasa’s side.

Samuel Wakhisi was the hero of the day as KHC subjected Weatherhead to their second defeat of the campaign. Weatherhead’s first defeat came against the same opponent on the opening day of the season in form of a 2-1 loss.

Saturday’s victory returned KHC to the top of the league, but Wananchi’s victory against bottom side Rockets on Sunday dropped the side down to second on goal difference.

Both KHC and Wananchi are on 22 points and only separated by goal difference.

Weatherhead failed to live up to the billing. Their new additions in Timothy Ntumba, Ashiraf Tumwesigye and Brian Okodi did little to salvage the situation.

Their chances of winning their first league title since 2011 have now diminished. The side sits third and now trails the top two sides by five points, although with a game in hand. KHC do have a game in hand as well.

KHC face off with Wananchi next in the league in a do or die tie.
