Collin Bastusa and Joshua Gumisiriza scored as Wananchi beat Kampala Hockey Club Stallions 2-0 in a pulsating contest to stay top.
Batusa broke the deadlock in the 15th minute to give his side the lead before Gumisiriza wrapping up things as early as the 38th minute with the second and for the second time this season, Joshua Opolot’s side was beating KHC.
Wananchi handed the Stallions their first loss of the season when they beat the side 1-0 in the second round. This was after KHC had beaten them 3-2 in the first round.
Wananchi stay top with 25 points making them the outright favorites to win the title they won last season. The two sides had gone into the game level on points and a draw would have still left Wananchi top as they boast of a superior goal difference.
The Stallions stay second with 22 points.
With Wananchi now topping the table standings, chances of any of KHC or Weatherhead winning the title are now slim.
Although Wananchi have played a game more, the record league winners are now overwhelming favorites to retain the title.
