Vincent Kasasa is confident his Weatherhead side can still secure their first league trophy since 2011 despite sitting eight points adrift of table leaders Wananchi.

Weatherhead succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Kampala Hockey Club Stallions in their latest league engagement, but it was a result that was protested by Weatherhead after KHC allegedly fielded an ineligible player in Webo Wakhisi.

Kasasa who trusts his side to match the current table leaders Wananchi in their remaining games believes if KHC is found guilty of using an ineligible player which will mean three points for his side, they’ll still be in contention for the title.

“We are still waiting for the response from UHA,” Kasasa said. “It has already been decided that KHC lose the points, but we are waiting for the formal communication. Although Webo was stopped from playing against Wananchi, they have been postponing the ruling,” he added.

Weatherhead sit third in the league with 17 points. The side has managed five wins this term including their first that came against Wananchi. Weatherhead beat Wananchi in their first league encounter this season and drew 4-4 in the second round.

Kasasa believes because they haven’t lost to the defending champions this term, his boys can topple Wananchi.

“We remain the only side yet to lose to Wananchi this season and we are determined to keep it that way. If we manage to stop Wananchi and we are rightfully awarded the three points, then why shouldn’t we be in contention? The title is still within our reach.”

Weatherhead have played two games less that Wananchi who lead the table with 25 points.  The side plays Simba next in the league on October 15.
