As Ugandans seek to multiply the number of rated events in the country, Chess Life Academy has organized one.

The Prestige Cup Below 2100 is set to take place late this month from 28-29 at the Jevine Hotel, Rubaga in Kampala.

Only those players rated below 2100 are eligible to participate which means the current top eight players in the country are ineligible.

Rajab Kamoga, Thomas Katairo, Rogers Ntambi, Ezekiel Matsiko, Candidate Master Joshua Katumba are among the fourteen players who have thus far confirmed participation in this six-round event.

Initially, the slots had been available to only the first 30 players to register, but because there was need to attract more rated players, the organizers decided to make it open.

“We decided to make it open to whoever is below 2100 and is interested in the event,” John Vianney Mukalazi – Director at Chess Life Academy said.

“Our target is to get more rated players to take part. Players are already excited about the event and are looking forward to it,” he added.

In the related development, a junior event shall be held, with the sections categorized under the U-8, U-11 and the U-14 age groups.
