Kleevan Gomes and Riyaz Latife

Zambia’s Kleevan Gomes is raring to go as he seeks to consolidate third spot in the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) this year.

The 2017 Africa Rally Championship closes chapter in Zambia this weekend.

Kleevan, who will be competing in his home event, is in the fight to finish the championship in third place along with Christakis Fitidis and Giancarlo Davite.

Kleevan currently holds the position with 38 points; two more than Fitidis and five points ahead of Davite.

“I am so excited to be fighting for the third place than just gaining points through consistency which has been the case in the previous rounds.

“Since it’s the last race of the season (and) at the same time coming home, I will be out to give it my best. I may not win the third place but I am not intending to make it easy for them (Fitidis and Davite) either.

“The two drivers are some of Africa’s finest and have more experience than me. But that will be the reason to motivate me more to go hard on them,” he said.

Zambia International Rally is Kleevan’s sixth ARC event in his debut year on the championship.

“ARC has given me a lot of experience from each country have been to and I am yet to experience it more at home.

“But this weekend. It’s an all out ‘drive hard or go home’ battle. The third place can go to either of us as long as I know have fought for it,” he asserted.

Kleevan will enter the battle with his co-driver Riyaz Latife who is only one point ahead of Eric Nzamwita on the co-driver standings. They will drive the Mitsubishi Evo 9.
