
The Uganda Select XI was given a bit of a scare by the hosts Rwanda on a wet wicket but they were able to prevail over the home side by 43 runs.
The hosts won the toss and decided to field 1st and on a wet surface Uganda was in trouble at 49/5. A rescue act led by Riazat Shah (33), Rogers Olipa (22) and Brian Masaba (19) helped the team put on a fighting 135/9.
Uganda Select XI was disciplined in their bowling Brian Masaba the most impressive with his leggies. He finished with mean figures of 1/8 in 4 overs. Rwanda were eventually bundled out for 92 in 19 overs.
Uganda will now play the Christopher Shale XI in the final on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Steve Tikolo and his boys have been a class above the rest winning all group games with a lot of ease. The Uganda select XI is composed of mainly development players with only Roger Mukasa, Deus Muhumuza and Brian Masaba full internationals.
As Uganda prepares for the Division 4 World Cricket League they will take a lot of lessons from this tournament and the experience for the development players is invaluable.
The main event is slated for Saturday when the Gahanga Cricket Stadium will be officially opened with the select between the Brian Lara XI and the Michael Vaughan XI.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda is expected to be the main guest.
