As expected, Rajab Kamoga came out the top dog at the Prestige Cup Rated Below 2100 held over the weekend at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga.

Kamoga who won a silver medal on board one in the National Chess League entered the two-day event ranked No.1 and he didn’t disappoint his fans as he retained the position at the end of the tourney.

The rated 2090 was a cut above his opponents except Morris Sangalo who he drew with in the final round. Kamoga scored 5.5 points out of the possible six to march home with the trophy.

To complete the podium positions were Caxton Kalule who came second with 5.0 points and Candidate Master Daniel Bagaade with the same points.

Sangalo came fourth with 4.5 points and Innocent Kimera completed the top five.

Veteran player Francis Obita, ranked sixth at the start of the event had a tournament to forget as he managed a paltry three points to finish 18th.

In the Junior sections, Terry Tendo registered maximum points [8] to finish first in the U-8 Boys’ category, Joel Musementa was second with 4.5 points and William Wire third with 4 points.

And in the U-8 Girls’ section, Kitty Joyce Mary Ndagizimana won the event with 6.5 points, Mariana Namutebi came second with 5.5 points while Joan Natalia Nakazzi finished third.

Victor Kanyike was first in the U-14 section, Christian Musenze and Drake Bakka completed the top three.
