Wayne Sandilands, conceded three times against his former teamOrlando Pirates Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic failed to blame goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands following a 3-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League.
The former Sundowns goalie was at fault for the two goals from Hlompo Kekana after he was caught off his line by his former captain.
Micho said he never blames ‘individual players’ for mistakes and revealed what he told the goalkeeper during the half time break.
“You’ll never hear me blaming an individual player because I have the highest possible degree [of respect] for the players,” Micho said. “I can understand that no player ever made an intentional mistake,” he added.
At half-time my first gesture after coming into the dressing room was sitting beside Wayne, telling him, ‘This is for history, take a scissors and cut it off. The game starts for you now, now show what you are capable of. All of us have trust, confidence and belief in you.
The former Uganda Cranes Coach further revealed the players accepted the mistake and moved on insisting Sandilands was fine in the second half.
All other players accepted [the mistakes] in an accepting way, and I believe in the second half he [Sandilands] was okay. I will not go back and blame anyone because it’s not my culture. I will rather look for solutions and ways for it not to happen again.
The Buccaneers are experiencing a blip after a great start to the season and sit 7th on the log with 14 points from 10 games.
They have won 3, lost 2 and drawn five of their ten games so far.
