Walid El Karty scored the winning goal to guide Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca to a 1-0 win over Egypt’s Al Ahly to lift the 2017 CAF Champions League.

In an entertaining second leg final played at the full to capacity stadium in Morocco, the only goal of the game came with twenty one minutes from the final whistle.

With the first leg ending in a one-all draw in Alexandria, Al Ahly had no option but to win away from home.

Following a closely contested first half, El Karty separated the two sides with a strike in the 69th minute.

The final whistle gave the Moroccans a 2-1 aggregate win and only their second title in history.

They had lost conquered Africa in 1992 when they defeated Al Hilal of Sudan and now dislodge South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns who won the competition last year.

On top of the trophy, Wydad pocketed a record $2.5 million and are guaranteed at least another $1 million by competing at the Fifa Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in December.

They also set a new record of seven wins in as many home games in the competition this year.
