  • JKL Lady Dolphins 70-62 UCU Lady Canons (Series tied 1-1)

After an abysmal performance in Game 1 of the playoff semifinals against UCU Lady Canons, JKL Ladies came out guns blazing in Game 2.

Paced by Salma Akiny (14 points) early in the game, JKL defeated UCU 70-62 on Tuesday evening at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

Dolphins jumped out to a 16-4 opening quarter with Akiny and Muhayimina Namuwaya troubling Velma Achieng and Sarah Ageno in the key.

Lady Canons looked better in the second quarter but a couple of treys by Angella Namirimu and Lean Nalunkuma kept JKL in charge 36-21 by halftime.

The defending champions kept chipping away in third quarter but Namirimu, Flavia Oketcho and Peace Nakirijja netted 3s to keep JKL in command (49-40) heading into the final quarter.

Ritah Imanishimwe hit a pair of throws for UCU to start the fourth quarter to bring the university side within 7 points but it was the closest they came as Dolphins held on to even the series.

Donasama Achieng contributed 10 points in Dolphins team effort while Oketcho and Nakirijja scored 9 points apiece.

Velma Achieng scored game high 17 points and picked 10 rebounds in a losing effort. Rachael Muanguzi added 13 points, Imanishimwe scored 11 points while Zainah Lokwameri had 10 points.

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
