- Nemostars 3-1 Sport-S (25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 25-12)
Nemostars defeated Sport-S 3-1 in the first game of the 2017 National Volleyball League playoff finals on Thursday night at Lugogo.
Sport-S will have themselves to blame for the loss as their reception was poor all night gifting Nemostars free points.
Smith Okumu earned the first 4 points of the opening set from the service box which set Nemostars rolling. They led 8-4 at the first technical time out and 16-8 at the second. While Sport-S tried to take advantage of late errors from their opponents, Nemo prevailed 25-22.
Benon Mugisha’s charges made amends on reception in the second set and their attack came life as well as the net defense. George Aporu kept Nemo afloat in the set but Sport-S ran away 25-17 to draw level.
Sport-S reception woes were back to haunt them in the third and fourth sets and coupled with a miscommunication and a multitude of other unforced errors, Nemostars cruised 25-18 and 25-12.
“Reception leads to attack, and our reception was really poor. We adjusted in the second set but the first set errors returned in the third and fourth,” Mugisha said after the game.
Meanwhile, Nkumba got the better of Vision Volleyball Camp 3-2 in the tense women’s final.
Game 2 of the series will be played on Saturday at Lugogo.
