CECAFA 2017 Championship
Opening Matches (Sunday Results)
- Kenya 2-0 Rwanda
- Tanzania 0-0 Libya
2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup hosts Kenya kicked off the tourney on a sound note winning 2-0 against ten-man Rwanda in a Group A encounter at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday.
Juma Masud opened the scoring with a well taken penalty beating goalkeeper and captain Jean Luc Ndashimiye in the 26th minute. The penalty was awarded following a foul on central defender Jockins Atudo by Kayumba Soter.
Midfielder Duncan Otieno wrapped the business for the Haraambe Stars whose new Belgian coach Paul Put started with a victory.
Otieno’s goal was a beauty of sorts. Wesley Onguso laid to Whyvonne Isuza who assisted Otieno to finish past Ndashimiye from 30 yards away.
Rwanda’s Kayumba was red carded after two bookable offences.
Rwanda was frustrated by the Kenyan backline as they were denied chances of at least pulling a goal back.
