Bernard Muwanga has warned rivals against disrespecting Uganda Cranes and says the 5-1 win over South Sudan should send signal to rivals.
The Cranes skipper at the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup said this in the aftermath of the sounding win over Bright Stars, a couple of days after a disappointing stalemate with Burundi.
“We needed to get our rhythm back,” he told Soka. “I’m glad we have it now because we also want to win the last one and qualify as the top team in the group,” he added.
We needed the goal margin to top the group because having drawn in the first I feel we needed a little respect as the champions.
The defending champions are all but through to the semi-finals of the competition although they still have a small matter of Ethiopia to deal with.
With hosts Kenya and fast improving Zanzibar as well as Libya in line to face the Cranes, Muwanga doesn’t care who comes his and the team’s way.
At this level of competition I wouldn’t say I want to meet a specific team in the semis.
We are the defending champions and I think it should be other teams thinking about us and not us thinking about them.
The last time the tournament was hosted in Kenya, Uganda Cranes lost at the quarter finals to Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro in Mombasa.
