Groupement Sportif des Pétroliers (GSP) defeated Ferroviario Beira 102-80 in the first Group B match at the 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup.

The Algerian giants were ruthless in the opening quarter running for 35 points in 10 minutes against the Mozambique side who only managed 21 in response.

Beira played a balanced offense and defense in the second quarter but trailed Sofiane Boulaya’s charges by 15 points before falling off in the third quarter.

GSP matched the second quarter production in the third frame and held there opponents to 16 points. Despite falling in the final  period 17-18, all was nothing but done.

Mohamed Harat  led GSP’s team effort with 20 points and 7 boards, Abdellah Hamdini and Nicholas Covington chipped in with 16 points apiece while Mounir Benzegala and Mustapha Adrar scored 14 and 10 points respectively.

Elves Houana scored game high 24 points in a losing effort and so were Ismael Nurmamade’s 19 points as well as Helton Ubise’s 15 points.
