Ugandan goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya is delighted a man after being nominated in the inaugural Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) awards.
The Sofapaka goalkeeper helped the Batoto Bamungu finish second in the Kenya Premier League behind winners Gor Mahia and was part of the KPL All Stars team that toured Spain for promotional friendly matches.
“Personally I can say I had a good season and I’m definitely happy to have been nominated,” he told Soka. “As a team we had targets that we unfortunately failed to achieve but we improved a lot, looking at where we finished the other season,” he added.
Kigonya will have however has a task to beat Gor Mahia’s Boniface Oluoch, Posta Rangers’ Patrick Matasi, Kariobangi Sharks’ Jeff Oyemba and David Juma of Kakamega Homeboyz.
I will be contesting for this award alongside other very able goalkeepers and while I hope I get it, I think getting here is a good enough achievement.
The awards are slated for December 18, 2017.
