Duncan Mubiru has upgraded his ambitions for the National Rally Championship after securing a new car for the 2018 season.
‘Kikankane’ as he is commonly known is likely to commence the season with a Subaru GVB formerly owned by reigning Africa rally champion Manvir Baryan.
“It’s true I got interested in that car even when I was not planning to secure a new car this season. After talking to the owners we eventually entered a deal.
“At the moment we are finalising everything. I am only left to sort a few things and after the car will be in Uganda hopefully before Mbarara Rally,” he told Kawowo Sports.
Mubiru has been driving a Subaru N14. He finished third overall in the 2017 National Rally Championship.
He now hopes he can do even better this time round.
“I have at least tried Subarus and Evos. I think Subarus are meant for me. And I am sure I won’t be disappointed after I secure this car,” he added.
The Subaru has had some successful spells in the Kenya Rally Championship registering wins and podium finishes in as many rallies.
The same model is driven by Tapio Laukkunen in the Kenya Rally series.
