Kampala Pirates had a chance of causing the biggest upset of the weekend in the T20 League but failed to deal with the spin of KICC in chasing 89 runs falling short by 8.
KICC has the spinning trio of national team players Davis Karashani and Frank Nsubuga and U19 all rounder Nsubuga Siraje. They together managed to defend the below par score of 89 drying up the runs from the start of the chase on a wicket that was taking some spin.
National team captain Davis Karashani put his hand up for KICC when they needed him most picking 4/17 in his 4 overs with youngster Zephaniah Arinaitwe getting in on the action with 2/12.
KICC missing regular captain Hanumat Kathkar showed signs of rust from the off season throwing away wickets in clusters before the crawled to 89 all out with Davis Karashani (19) and Zephaniah Katungi (17) the only batsmen with double digits.
Kampala Pirates didn’t help themselves in the chase blocking too many balls and building pressure on themselves and in the end ran out of overs with 8 runs still needed.
KICC will need to up there batting next weekend when they face Kutchi Tigers in the semifinal.
