Effective June 1st 2018, a new company (Sports Broadcasting Limited) will take over the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League and the Uganda Cup broadcast rights for the next four years to come for $ 3M (10.8 Billion).

The fresh deal was announced at Achwa Hall, Serena International Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, 25th January 2018.

Sports Broadcasting will take over the rights for the elite league that are currently being owned by Tanzanian pay TV, Azam Television.

Azam TV’s three year deal of $2.5m (about Sh6.8bn) will elapse on 31st May 2018.

Addressing the media during the launch, the FUFA boss Moses Magogo explained that the federation first got assurance from the Tanzanian pay TV company will not renew their contract.

“Azam TV communicated to us officially in writing that they will not renew the contract. Therefore, we had to react swiftly and we negotiated with Sports Broadcasting” Magogo noted.

In the new deal, $600,000 will carter for the Uganda Premier League, the FUFA Big League will take $70,000 as the Uganda Cup is apportioned $80,000.

The launch was also attended by the Sports Broadcasting director Brutus Kagingo, the company’s Warren Naamara (Chairman),  Managing Director Sports Broadcasting (Dennis Mbidde), Uganda Premier League board chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo and the State Minster of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi (Chief Guest) and the representative from the National Council of Sports (Zubair Ggaliwango).

“I am happy that we have fulfilled our mission which was to drive Uganda’s football because stability, harmony and integrity. Let us support our indigenous brands as we welcome Sports Broadcasting” Rugyendo noted.

Kagingo hinted on the willingness of Sports Broadcasting to further develop the private sector.

Chief guest at the launch, minister Suubi lauded Sports Broadcasting Limited for coming on board and praised FUFA for creating the conducive environment which has attracted new partners and sponsors.

Ggaliwango who represented the sports minister, Hon. Charles Bakabulindi added his voice to the supportive sports sponsors.

He also announced the Shs 17 billion supplementary budget effective January 2018 for sports till June that will also carter for Uganda Cranes during the AFCON 2019 qualifiers.

All the 240 games will be televised by Sports Broadcasting according to the memorandum of understanding signed.

Sports Broadcasting new deals starts on 1st June and will run until 31st July 2022.

  2. Then a legitimate sponsor will have to pay sports broadcasting a ransom to access the league!. Does the so called sports broadcasting even have a bank statement? Even a Minister attended! S**t hole Country.
