For the past five years, the Joan Cox Memorial Tournament has been exclusively a volleyball competition.

However, the the 2018 edition will have a little more than just volleyball as Tennis and Table Tennis have been added to the event that is held in memory of the first and the longest serving Headmistress of Gayaza High School.

The tournament will be held this weekend from February 24-25 at the school with over 60 teams expected to participate in the three different categories – schools, clubs and corporate.

“Since it’s inauguration, this tournament has been a volleyball competition but this year we have scaled it up to include Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis,” Vicky Kisarare the head teacher of the school said at a press briefing.

“We expect over 40 schools, 13 clubs and 8 corporate companies to participate in the tournament,” she added.

Ndejje Elites won last year’s edition in the club category after defeating Sport-S 3-2.

Meanwhile, Hannington Nsubuga the coach of the 2016 winners of the edition Vision Volleyball Camp indicated the club would use the tourney as a tune up for the Women’s African Club Championship to be played early March in Cairo, Egypt.
