The Federation of Motorsport clubs of Uganda (FMU) has dispelled claims that this week’s Jinja Rally could be called off.
The Second round of National Rally Championship is scheduled for 2-4 March.
According to Red Pepper Newspaper; local police and authorities were concerned by Jinja Rally organisers’ invitation of opposition party leaders to preside over the event in Jinja.
The FMU president Dusman Okee says the event will go on as planned.
“Those are just baseless rumours. Before any event, we first get permission from Uganda Police. So the RPC was aware of our event.
“Rally and politics are two different things. Besides, why should we invite politicians and much less Besigye and Mugisha who have never been rally fans, not even ever shown any interest in Motorsport?
“So, to the rally fraternity, I assure you the event is on as dated initially. Final preparations are on going,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, over 30 crews have registered for the Jinja Rally that will rev off on Saturday with a Super Special Stage at Jinja Agricultural show grounds.
