The weekend ushers in round two of the 2018 National Rally Championship and another intense battle is in the offing.

The FMU Challenge Rally starts on Saturday with a 5.8km Super Special Stage at the Jinja agricultural show ground.

Five stages; repeated once will be the feature for the final day. Crews will cover a total competitive distance of 174.01kilometres.

With the nature of the stages, Jinja rally is anticipated to be an extensively fast rally; the roads on Sunday are smooth.

Championship leader Jas Mangat is yet again expected to set the pace in Jinja as he goes for his second victory of the season.

Mangat and co-driver Joseph Kamya dominated the season opener in Mbarara last month. They will be keen on extending their championship lead.

Reigning NRC champion Christakis Fitidis, Susan Muwonge, Ashraf Ahmed and other Mbarara Rally finalists will be out to add on their championship points.

Ronald Sebuguzi will open the route this time round. He will however want to put his Mbarara Rally glitches behind as he gears for his first season points.

Rauf Essa proved he can be a worthwhile contender for the top positions. He will equally be one to watch out for as is Omar Mayanja.

Another driver to look out for is Hassan Alwi. His rally ended early in Mbarara and while Jinja has not been a good points hunting ground; a change of luck could suffice this time round.

The Jinja rally battles will go down to the two-wheel drive category and the Clubman Rally Championship.

Meanwhile, Arthur Blick Jr make s a return this weekend while Duncan Mubiru will be a notable absentee.
