From the airport staff, CAF Executive committee member and FUFA President Moses Magogo, National Council of Sports and officials from the ministry of education and sports among others, all visibly looked excited and ready to recieve the historic 6.1Kg karat gold trophy.

The trophy entourage arrived from Cape Town City in South Africa where it had been since Sunday.

Magogo and State minister of Sports Charles Bakabulindi were granted the first opportunity to have a glimpse of the trophy in a glass.

From the airport, the golden icon was driven to the nearby Entebbe State House where H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will certify its presence in the country.

For starters, Museveni alongside other world leaders have the permission to lift the trophy with his bare hands.

Its only the heads of states and former winners allowed to touch that trophy.

In his speech at Entebbe State House, President Museveni noted;

This is a rare opportunity for Uganda, this visit is also symbolic in that it shows FIFA’s confidence in Uganda by recognizing our competitive abilities.

It will also draw attention to our country and boost tourism.

We hope to win this trophy one time and retain it.

This might take a few years considering that other national teams have better facilities however, Uganda with raw talent almost qualified but narrowly lost heading to Russia

On Tuesday, there will be a public viewing by all Ugandans at the Lugogo Cricket oval on 6th March 2018.

About the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour:

The World Cup trophy tour began in 2006 as a build up for the tournament that was hosted in Germany.

This first ever FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour brought the energy and excitement of the world’s most loved football tournament, and it’s most coveted prize, directly to fans for the first time.

Since 2006, every new edition of the FIFA World Cup has brought with it the promise of a new Trophy Tour travelling and touching down in new cities and meeting new fans.

About the FIFA World Cup Trophy:

The World Cup is a gold trophy was introduced in 1974.

It is made of 18 karat gold with a malachite base, it stands 36.8 centimeters high and weighs 6.1 kilograms.

The trophy was made by Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company in Italy.

It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth.

The current holder of the trophy is Germany, winner of the 2014 World Cup.

The FIFA World Cup is awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cup association football tournament.

Since the advent of the World Cup in 1930, two trophies have been used: the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1930 to 1970, and the FIFA World Cup Trophy from 1974 to the present day.

The first trophy, originally named Victory, but later renamed in honour of former FIFA president Jules Rimet, was made of gold plated sterling silver and lapis lazuli and depicted Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.

Brazil won the trophy outright in 1970, prompting the commissioning of a replacement.

The original Jules Rimet Trophy was stolen in 1983 and never recovered.
