With no club in the competition, Uganda’s hopes in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup lie in Emmanuel Okwi (Simba) and Denis Rukundo (APR) whose clubs face big tests at the first round.

Okwi and The Msimbazi return to action on Wednesday at National Stadium, Dar es Salam against Egyptian giants El Masry while Rukundo’s APR are away to Mali’s Djoliba.

Simba last played in the group stages of any continental competition in 2003 while APR have never played in any.

Both Okwi and Rukundo were instrumental for their respective clubs in the previous rounds and will be key if they are to progress to the next round.

Uganda Cranes defender Murushid Jjuuko also features for the Tanzanian side.

Over 16 fixtures will be played over two days with the aggregate winner reaching a stage where they face off against sides that will be eliminated from the CAF Champions League.
