A superb second half performance from the Uganda Hippos saw off resilient South Sudan in an entertaining game played at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.
Mustapha Kizza, Steven Mukwala, Allan Okello and substitutes Sadam Masereka and Hamis Tibita scored for the Hippos while Mustapha Mujjuzi scored in his own net for South Sudan’s only goal.
Kawowo Sports’ Ismael Kiyonga rates the individual performances out of 10.
Said Keni 5.0: Not so many questions asked of him but didn’t inspire confidence.
Paul Willa 6.0: Involved in the opening goal with his pass to Mukwala and always pivoted well to cover for centre backs when South Sudan attacked from the opposite wing.
Mustapha Kizza 5.0: A silly red card took shine off his good performance after he set the tone with a penalty in the first half. Whipped in a few crosses as well.
Mustapha Mujjuzi 5.0: Despite his experience at a higher level, he appeared nervous and didn’t command well the backline as expected.
Geoffrey Wasswa 6.0: His partnership with Mujjuzi didn’t look the part but was willing to go into every tackle for the team.
Abubaker Kasule 5.0: Lack of competitive football showed as he was off pace in a couple of contests but was a willing worker on the afternoon.
Julius Poloto 6.5: The versatile team captain put in a good shift for the team in terms of effort and efficiency and played everywhere for the team.
Frank Tumwesigye 6.0: A couple of decent touches that often kept the crowds on the edge of the seats. Only missing link from his game was the numbers that matter most.
Allan Okello 8.0: Two assists and a super strike to crown a fantastic second half. He beat his men easily and took it upon self to open the compact South Sudan defence.
Steven Mukyala 6.0: Won the penalty for first goal and also scored a good goal but often made miscalculated runs that left him often offside . He also missed some good chances.
Joshua Okiror 5.0: His pace and trickery troubled the South Sudan right side of defence early on but had less to do when the opponents became more compact.
Substitutes
Sadam Masereka 6.0: A goal to his name after replacing Okiror gave the Hippos breathing space.
Hamis Tibita 6.0: He showed his predatory instincts with a goal with his first touch after replacing Mukwala.
Faizal Ssekyanzi N/A: Replaced Okello at the death.
Coach:
Matia Lule 8.0: Started with an all exciting and attack minded side and on top of that, made impact substitutions.
