“This is the day, this is the day the Lord has made… the Lord has made…” goes a popular chorus from christian hymn books inspired by a Bible verse (Pslams 118:24).

After more than two decades, the day finally arrived and Black Pirates are the 2017-18 National Rugby Premiership champions.

The Sea Robbers sang the chorus with ecstasy after defeating Jinja Hippos 48-05 at Dam Waters, a win that sealed the title with a game to spare.

Pirates join a class of four as only the fourth side (after Heathens, Kobs and Impis) to win the national 15s title.

Sidney Muniafu (3), Baron Kasozi (2), Conrad Wanyama and William Mucunguzi crossed the try line with Joel Anguyo putting away three conversions for the new champions.
