There was only one Division 2 game on the opening weekend of the National Cricket League but in week 2, the traditional giants of game are all in action.
Wanderers, Nile and Tornado are traditional member clubs of Cricket but over time have fallen behind the advent of Asian sides who have bigger resources.
Nile was cut from the top flight last season joining Wanderers and Tornado who are in their second season in the second tier of Ugandan Cricket.
In their first game of Division 2, Nile will face a determined Wanderers who are looking for promotion to the top flight.
Wanderers recruited careful in the off season bringing in Abu Sseguya and Juma Gabula who are both batsmen, a department that clearly troubled Wanderers last season.
Nile on the other hand lost some of its players to others and they will field a largely very new side. Abu Sseguya will face his former team as he made the move from Nile to Wanderers.
Both Tornado and newly promoted Budo will face off in Jinja. Tornado survived relegation to Division 3 last season and they will need to have a better start if they are to challenge for promotion this season.
Budo made it to Division 2 after Division 3 champions Kampala Pirates forfeited their chance of promotion opting to stay in Division 3. This however doesn’t mean they don’t belong, Captain Abu Mayanja has put together a strong side with a mix of school children and seasoned players. Boris Aguma joins them from Charity, with Joel Epiangu also joining them from Mwiri Cricket Club.
Tornado, led by Brian Adriko, have the talent to compete and challenge for the title as long as they can get their act together.
A poor start last season where they only won one of their 6 opening games nearly relegated them to Division 3.
Hopefully Coach Henry Oketcho has been able to sort this out and make sure the youngsters perform to their potential.
